Warren County’s Republican and Democratic parties will gather on Saturday, choosing county leaders in preparation for the state party conventions, which will be held in May.
Eric Biedenharn, who is chairman of the Warren County executive committee of the Warren County Republicans, said Saturday is an opportunity for those who want to become involved with Republican politics to do so.
In addition, the Warren County Democratic Party Executive Committee meets Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m. at 700 Longview St., Vicksburg.
The agenda of the Democrats’ meeting includes election of a permanent chairman and permanent secretary, consideration of additional members, additional delegates and alternates to the Democratic Party state convention, upcoming elections and events and possible fund raising events.
“There is a five or 10 minute meeting usually at the front door of each voting precinct. Most of them don’t even open the precinct place up,” Biedenharn said.
Each voting precinct will elect a delegate and an alternate, who will then attend the county Republican convention at 3 p.m.
“At 3 p.m., we will elect a chairman for the convention and from there, we will elect delegates to go to the state convention,” he said.
The state Republican Party convention is May 13 and 14 in Jackson.
Also at 3 p.m., the Republicans will elect members to serve as the county party’s executive committee for the next four years.
“If someone is interested in serving on the executive committee, please email me at ericbjr@att.net,” he said.
No representative of the county’s Democratic Party was available to provide more information.
