An eating contest will be held in Vicksburg this weekend that would even make hot dog eating champion Takeru Kobayashi proud.

A ginormous cinnamon roll-eating contest will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Mad Baker, 1119 Washington St. Eaters will be given 10 minutes to consume this ginormous cinnamon roll, and if no one completes the massive swirl of sweet bread, the person who has eaten the most will be proclaimed winner.

The Mad Baker, better known as Felicia McKnight, won’t divulge exactly how ginormous the roll will be, but she said she has made multiple sizes before.

“I’ve done the regular. I’ve done a medium size, and we’ve done jumbo,” McKnight said. “Everyone keeps asking us what size it is and we can’t reveal it until we sit it in front of them.”

The contest is open to 20 people and as of Wednesday 14 people had signed up to eat their hearts out. Anybody can sign up as long as they do it by the end of the day Friday. It costs $5 to enter the contest.

The winner will receive a trophy and a $20 gift certificate from The Mad Baker, second place will get a $30 gift certificate from The Wine House and the third place finisher will be given $20 in downtown dollars.

She said the main goal is to bring business to downtown Vicksburg.

“I absolutely love my downtown and Washington Street,” McKnight said.

McKnight plans for the contest to become a yearly event.

“Next year we can see if any other vendors want to be apart of this,” McKnight said.

It all started as a springtime promotion that clicked in place for the bakery. McKnight said National Cinnamon Roll Day was on April 10, and this is how she chose to commemorate the occasion. She said the cinnamon rolls have been a top seller at the bakery. “Everybody loves the cinnamon rolls,” McKnight said. She said she would start baking at 4 a.m. Saturday, and the bakery will be adorned with decorations for the event.

“We have a lot of things to decorate and make it look really fun,” McKnight said.
