Burial will follow in Bassfield Cemetery in Bassfield. The Rev. Ken Roberts will be officiating.
Velma was born September 27, 1928, in Jefferson Davis County. She was the daughter of Joe and Lea Anna Hutchinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Carley B. Wilson; four brothers, Rufus Hutchinson, Clifton Hutchinson, J.P. Hutchinson, and Bruce Hutchinson; two sisters, Bertha King and Alva Whitehead; and a grandson, Jeremy Wilson.
Those left to miss her and cherish the memories are her daughter, Janette Green and husband Freddie; her son, Micheal Wilson and wife Kathy; grandchildren, Rhonda Herrington and husband Brian, and Jeffrey Wilson and wife Maggy; great-grandchildren, Colin and Grace Herrington; many nephews and nieces; her best friend, Tennie Ivy and her children, Wayne and Elanie who called her Aunt Velma.
Velma was a member of the Bassfield Baptist Church. Velma was a homemaker and loving mother. She was always ready to help family, friends and neighbors. She would make sure adults got coffee, sweet ice tea and boiled peanuts and kids got Kool-Aid with sweets. Her favorite thing was to spoil her grandchildren.
Later in life at Magnolia Place, Velma sat near the front door and gave out compliments along with an “I love you” to everyone who entered Magnolia Place.
A grateful and special thank you goes out to Magnolia Place staff, Dr. Rebecca Jameson and staff, and Southern Care Hospice for the love and special care provided Velma during the last 6 years of her life. Also, thank you to Bo Haden and Sumrall Pharmacy staff for taking care of her medicine needs.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are given to Bassfield Baptist Church, Mississippi Hospice and the Alzheimer Association. Online condolences and a guest registry are available at www.saultersmoorefuneralhome.com.
