Celeste Freeman Spencer

Celeste Freeman Spencer of Port Gibson died Friday, May 6, 2016.
She was born in Red Lick on April 6, 1921, to the late Avery Freeman and Celeste Stephens Freeman. Celeste was a loving mama and grandmother (Maw Maw) and a die-hard Ole Miss Fan. She loved entertaining her friends and working in her yard. During her long life, she was blessed with two sets of special friends, the Dingbats and the Biddies. She was a devoted member of the Port Gibson United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and DAR.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Louis Freeman and Joe Freeman; husbands Elwyn Segrest Sr. and William Spencer; aunt, Annie Bell Stephens Short; and a grandson, James Elwyn Segrest.
She is survived by her son, Elwyn Segrest Jr. (Carol) of Apollo Beach, Fla.; daughter, Celeste Segrest Ellis (Dr. E.G. Ellis Jr.) of Port Gibson; grandson, Avery Quentin Segrest (Helen) of River View, Fla.; and granddaughters, Tori and Alexandra of Florida.
Visitation will be Monday, May 9, 2016, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Port Gibson United Methodist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Charles Pope and the Rev. Michael Herrin presiding. Burial will be in Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson.
Pallbearers will be Walter Cade, Frankie Graves, Grady Humpheries, John Noble, Avery Quintin Segrest, Cliff St.John, Fred Stuart and John L. Torrey. Honorary pallbearers will be Deverly Cruel, Lisa Farmer, Alex Harden, Mattie Jackson and Dee Marshall. Memorials donations may be made to the Port Gibson United Methodist Church, 109 Church St., Port Gibson, MS 39150.
