Mudbugs softball fundraiser
The Mississippi Mudbugs Special Olympics softball team will hold a chicken dinner fundraiser on Saturday, June 11, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Vicksburg Moose Lodge at 2100 Fisher Ferry Road.
The Moose Lodge will sell barbecue chicken dinners for $10, along with a bake sale and cake walk. There will also be an auction and drawdown. All proceeds benefit the Mississippi Mudbugs and Area 10 Special Olympics. The Mudbugs are raising money to pay travel costs for the Moose International Special Olympics 2016 North American Softball Tournament, which is scheduled for Aug. 19-21 in Troutville and Salem, Va.
Summer tennis lessons
The City of Vicksburg is offering free tennis lessons for children ages 5-18, each weekday this summer at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The lessons will go from 8 to 10 a.m. each day, and 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays. There will also be a junior team tennis session from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The lessons will be taught by head pro LeRoy Johnson, and assistants Matthew Register and Joseph Michael Jabour. For more information, call the City of Vicksburg’s tennis director Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.
Clear Creek Ladies report
On June 1, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association hosted their monthly retirees’ scramble. The team of Lynne Brush, Rodney McHann, Ron Pownall and Joe Tom took first place. Second place went to Linda McHann, Brad Heisler, David Vantrease and David Wright. Third place went to Dinah Lazor, Robert Baudo, Jerry Harmon and Eddie Roberson.
Judy McKnight hit the women’s longest drive, while Rodney McHann hit the men’s longest drive. Closest-to-pin awards went to Charlotte Crist, Judy McKnight, Ron Pownall and Don Watt. Linda McHann, Judy McKnight, Dale Cox, Eddie Fowler, Eddie Roberson, Davey Simmons and Richard Taylor made chip-ins.
VHS baseball camp
Vicksburg High will host the inaugural Grand Slam Baseball Camp June 13-16, at its Showers Field practice field.
The camp is for players ages 9-12. It will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day, and drop-off will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Instructors for the camp will be Vicksburg High head coach Derrick Dewald, assistants Shelby Robertson and Derek Sims, and VHS players. The fee for the camp is $75.

Fuzzy Johnson baseball
Registration for the 2016 season of the Fuzzy Johnson Baseball League is now open. The league is open to children ages 5-14, and will include three age groups.
