Father’s Day is a day to honor dads with ties and cookouts in celebration of their paternal role in their families’ life.
Preschool students at Woodlawn Baptist Church and children attending the church’s Vacation Bible School explained what makes their father special:
•Cooper Jamison, 6, said he likes to ride four-wheelers and jump on the trampoline with his father, who once bounced him so high he almost fell off.
“When he comes home from a place that takes a lot of hours I just, when I see him in the window, I just run outside and open the door of his truck and give him a big hug,” he said.
•Madelyn Wallace, 4, likes to watch Ninja Warrior with her dad.
“He’s special because they let me climb the wall, the hallway wall, but not with shoes,” she said.
She said he lets her ride on his back and shoulders and also on his four-wheeler, but they don’t ride everyday — just sometimes.
“He is special because he has a four-wheeler and sometimes he brings us to our friend’s house, and it’s fun because we like playing in her house,” she said.
•Owen Flowers, 4, enjoys playing with his dad and said his dad was special because he has a hammer and two tractors.
“He fixed his truck all by hisself,” he said. “He doesn’t have a four-wheeler, and he doesn’t have a boat. He has a house.”
•Malachi White, 3, said he plays and laughs with his dad all the time.
“We build with blocks, and build houses with the blocks,” he said. “We do everything we want to do.”
•Katie Warnock, 4, said she goes fishing with her father, and she enjoyed a recent trip her family took to the beach.
“I went in the ocean,” she said. “He went under ocean because one time my mommy lost her glasses.”
•Matthew Gregory Dement, 4, said his dad loves his dog, Blue, but sometimes the dog makes a mess in the house and his dad has to put the dog outside. Currently, his dad is teaching him how to bounce a basketball.
He loves his father, who works on boats, for many reasons.
“He takes me for a ride in his truck,” he said. “Any place I want.”
•Paxton Downey, 3, said one day he went fishing with his dad at his Paw Paw’s house.
“And my daddy went in the water,” Downey said, adding his dad caught a fish with his hands.
•Rylan Alexander Montgomery, 5, is proud to share a middle name with his father, and he remembers a special morning he spent with his family.
“When me and my mom were asleep he cooked eggs and bacon for us, and momma said that was sweet,” he said.
He plays Xbox and watches Star Wars with his dad who taught him how to use the gaming console by himself while he is at work. His dad is gone a lot because he works on a boat, which makes him sad, but he makes up new games when they are apart.
•Aaron Primeaux, 4, said his dad is a deputy who puts the bad guys in jail and gives them yucky food.
“My dad drives a officer car and drives super fast,” he said.
•Tristan Jamison, 7, said he shoots hoops, wrestles and plays baseball with his dad.
“He helps our baseball coaches, and he cuts the grass while we play outside, and he use to jump on the trampoline with us,” he said.
•Thomas Blake Caruthers, 6, said his dad works on air conditioners at multiple KFC locations, and sometimes he goes to work with him.
“He goes to a lot of places, like everywhere,” he said, adding they also play video games together.
•Daphne Jordan, 6, said her dad taught her how to fish, and said her sister caught a bunch of fish.
“He loves me,” she said.
•Karolynne Rivers, 4, said her dad drives her to school, and they spend time together when her mom works.
“We go to the store and buy some cookies,” she said, adding when her dad is at work she spends time with her mom.
Her dad also brought food to the school when it was her birthday.
“My dad was eating off my plate with my fork,” she said.
He also reads her stories and helped paint her room pink.
