On June 10, 2016, Vicksburg lost another former resident.
Thomas Vernon Cook Jr. died in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
Mr. Cook was a twin. His twin, Thomasine Carmel Cook Jefferson, died in May 1984. His parents, Joseph Boyd Shelton Sr. and Charlene Rosalyn Miller Shelton, died in 1964 and 2000, respectively.
Mr. Cook attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through 12th grade and graduated in May 1954. He then attended Xavier University in New Orleans and graduated in May 1959 with a degree in Pharmacy.
During recruitment week, Mr. Cook was hired by the Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical Center.
Mr. Cook leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Martha Louise Webster Cook Upland, Calif.; two children from his first marriage, Stephanie and Dana Cook of Los Angeles; Gavin Webster Cook of North San Bernardino, Calif.; and Erinn Carmel Cook Finnigan of Rancho Cucamonga and his son-in-law, Brandon Michael Finnigan; and daughter-in-law Diana J. Cook.
He also leaves his brother, Joseph Boyd Shelton Jr.; his sister-in-law, Valeria D. Shelton of Oak Park, Mich.; a sister, Mary Patricia Shelton, also of Oak Park, Mich.; four grandchildren, Jameson Michael, Jonathan Michael, Devin Jeremiah, and Grayson Thomas; an aunt, Louisa Miller of Mobile, Ala.; five nieces, including Brandi C. Shelton, Tamara Benson of Oak Park, Mich., and Charlene R. Jefferson McWilliams of Tulsa, Okla.; two nephews Joseph Boyd Shelton III of Fayetteville, N. C., and Jonathan Boyd Shelton of Detroit; five great nieces; three great nephews; and cousins, including Ruth Lois Green of Upland, Calif., as well as two sisters-in-law he cherished, Joetta and Virginia Webster, of Fontana, Calif.
Viewing will be June 23, 2016, from noon to 6 p.m. at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home, followed a Rosary with the Rev. Malcolm O’Leary of St. Mary’s Parish, officiating.
Graveside services will be on June 24, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
