Today, we mourn the lives of those lost; yet more victims of terrorism.

Today, we once again fill our social media accounts with hashtags asking for prayers for one community or nation.

Today, we once again are reminded terrorists do not need guns or bombs to spread terror, a simple truck and an unsuspecting crowd is all that is needed.

Again, the nation of France, an ally of the United States from the Revolutionary War, has once again been the target of terrorists. More than 80 people were killed — two of them American — when a truck drove into a large crowd, who were gathered together to celebrate Bastille Day, France’s independence celebration.

In the coming days, there will be claims of responsibility, further information about the identity of the truck’s driver, who was killed by police.

We will learn about his beliefs, his religion, his likely connections to terrorists, his recent ravel history and analysis of his activity in and around the city of Nice.

What we will not learn from these days of constant media coverage and analysis are clues on how to stop such acts from happening.

Gun control did not stop this individual, nor did stronger immigration policies.

But, while we might be at a lost on how to stop what seems like a weekly occurrence of one form of terrorism or another, we will once again come to the realization that we must not stop trying.

We must not stop hunting for those responsible for planning and carrying out acts of terrorism.

We must not stop finding ways to improve our intelligence gathering in an effort to prevent future attacks.

And, most important, we must not stop praying.

The United States and our friends in Europe continue to be targets of such attacks for a number of reasons, one of which is the freedoms we have, the liberties we are afforded in our forms of government and the ability to pray and worship freely.

It is that strength of freedom and the power of prayer, that affords us the strength to stand up to such cowards, to those bent on destroying us one celebration at a time.

When it comes down to it, despite our strong political disagreements, we are stronger because of the things that unite us.

Today, we pray for the victims of Thursday’s terrorist attack in Nice, France. We pray for the families of those lost and ask for God to give them comfort. We pray for the quick recovery of those injured and a quick return to their normal lives.
