Kory Montrel Cook answered the called home to glory after a brief illness July 29, 2016.
Kory was born March 10, 1985, in Vicksburg to Mamie Cook and Eddie Mitchell. He confessed to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Kory attended Vicksburg Warren schools, and received his diploma in Michigan City, Ind. He received a business administration degree from Cleveland State College in Cleveland, Tenn., and behavioral science in counseling from Baton Rouge Community College in Baton Rouge, La.
Prior to moving to Indiana, Kory worked at Cenikor Foundations in Baton Rouge. He was employed at Albanese Confectionery in Hobart, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Eugene Gibbs Sr.; and paternal grandparents, Sammie and Maggie Mitchell, who were of Vaiden.
Here to cherish in his memory are his daughter, Ja’kyla Hutcherson of Bristol, Va.; father, Eddie Mitchell; mother and stepfather Mamie and Jimmy Bright; maternal grandmother, Velma Turner; sisters, KaTrina Cook of Gary, Ind., Tonya Bias and Jacqueline Bright-Hill of Jackson; brothers are Fred Slaughter of Georgia, Joseph Matthews of Michigan City, Ind., and Jason Bright of Jackson; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, especially Kaidien Jones; special cousin, Wesley Danzy; and godparents, George and Jessica Renee’ Cook of Gary, Ind.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Pleasant Valley M. B. Church with the Rev. Charlie Blackmore officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery with W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home in charge.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
