Grand larceny sentence jails man for 15 years

A Vicksburg man has been sentenced to a total of 15 years in prison and ordered to pay more than $20,000 in restitution after pleading guilty in Warren County Circuit Court to three separate charges of grand larceny.

Circuit Judge M. James Chaney sentenced Darrell Tyrone Thomas, 22, to 10 years with five years suspended on each charge to be served consecutively for a total of 15 years. The sentences will run concurrent, or together, with a sentence from a prior charge. Thomas will be placed on five years post-release supervision after leaving prison.

In another case, Joseph Milton Barnett, 57, was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined $2,000 after pleading guilty in circuit court to gratification of lust of a vulnerable adult. Chaney sentenced Barnett to 15 years with eight years suspended for a total of seven years in prison, and five years post-release supervision.

The following sentences were also handed down:

• Butch Brown, 24, child abuse: sentenced to 20 years with seven to serve and five years post-release supervision. Fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $384.50 in court costs.

• Eric Johnson, 22, aggravated assault: five years in prison suspended; five years supervised probation, $1,500 fine and court costs.

• Nevin Edwards, 22, statutory rape — victim under age 14: 20 years in prison with two years to serve. Remaining balance suspended, and placed on five years post-release supervision, $1,500 fine and court costs.

• Paula Lynn Kelly, 40, probation revoked for failure to report to probation officer and failure to pay supervision fees or fine and court costs. Eight years in prison suspended, placed on five years supervised probation and pay $1,204.50 in fines and costs at a rate of $60 per month to circuit clerk’s office.

• George Patterson III, 27, non-residential burglary: Sentencing withheld and Patterson enrolled in the 9th Circuit Drug Program, pay restitution of $8,012.

• Jesse Lumpkin, 23, two counts burglary of a dwelling: 20 years in prison with 10 suspended and 10 to serve on each count for a total of 20 years. Pay a total of $3,000 in fines and $200 in restitution to the district attorney’s office.

• Levi Robinson, 55, aggravated assault: 10 years suspended, five years supervised probation and attend outpatient mental health/anger management treatment through Warren-Yazoo Mental Health within 30 days of sentencing and have no contact with the victim. Pay a $1,000 fine and costs.
