Warren Central softball rolls to two victories

Warren Central’s slow-pitch softball team started slow Saturday, then got rolling in a big way.

The Lady Vikes scored 12 runs over a three-inning span and beat Winona 12-1 in their first game at the Riverside tournament in Greenville. In the second game, WC pounded out 14 hits and beat Riverside 15-3 in a four-inning, run rule shortened game.

Kaylee Hoeft went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in the win over Winona. Kaitlyn Mitchell also was 3-for-4, with a double, RBI and three runs scored. Madison Wade had three hits, while Megan Stewart tripled in a pair of runs.

The Lady Vikes had 13 of their 17 hits in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, which is also when they scored all of their runs.

Against Riverside, Hoeft, Wade and Morgan Stewart each drove in two runs, and the Lady Vikes had seven extra base hits. Ashley Coley doubled twice and had two RBIs, Cocoa Fultz tripled and scored two runs, and Sarah Kate Smith was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Warren Central will host Richland Monday at 6:15 p.m.
