A Yazoo City man faces drug charges after sheriff’s deputies found the drug Ecstasy and more than $5,000 in the car he was driving after a 1 a.m. traffic stop Monday, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Timothy Gilbert, 37, was being held without bail at the Warren County Jail on charges of possession of Ecstasy with intent to distribute and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Gilbert, Pace said, is on probation from Wisconsin for a previous cocaine conviction. The money was seized.
He said Gilbert was southbound on U.S. 61 North when he was stopped south of Culkin Road for a traffic violation and deputies smelled marijuana when they neared the car.
Gilbert, Pace said, let the deputies search the car and they found a red backpack containing $5,500 in cash, Ecstasy in a pill bottle with some pills wrapped in individual cellophane packages, and a .40-caliber Smith&Wesson semi-automatic handgun. A small amount of marijuana was found in the passenger side glove compartment.
