VHS archery tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s archery team will be held Oct. 12, at the ROTC building. All archers must have a physical and parental permission form to try out. For information, email coach Pamela Piazza at pamela.piazza@vwsd.org.

VHS basketball meeting
There will be a meeting for parents of all Vicksburg High boys basketball players Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the VHS gym. For more information, call coach Dellie C. Robinson at 601-529-3550.

Clear Creek Ladies report
On Wednesday, Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association members competed in flighted play. Joyce Johnson was the Flight A winner. Lynne Brush won Flight B, and Emily Bonelli won Flight C. Linda McHann logged the lowest putting score. Charlotte Crist made a chip-in.

Over the River Run
Registration is now open for the 28th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run, race walk and fun run on the Old Mississippi River Bridge. This year’s race is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $25 per person, or $15 for children ages 10 and under. There is also a $75 family rate for up to five immediate family members living at the same address, and a $100 rate for 3-5 person corporate teams.

The Over the River Run benefits the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation. Entry forms are available at the SCHF office, at 1302 Adams Street, or Hobie’s Outdoor Sports. Online registration and more information is available at southernculture.org/events/otrr.htm.

Hinds golf tournament
The Warren-Claiborne Chapter of the Hinds Community College Alumni Association will host the Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop Memorial Golf Tournament Oct. 19 at Clear Creek Golf Course.

The tournament is a four-person scramble and begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A hamburger cookout and prize ceremony will follow. Flight winners will receive gift certificates to the Clear Creek Pro Shop, and there will also be bonus prizes for closest to the hole and longest drive.

City tennis sessions
The City of Vicksburg’s tennis program will conduct a free youth clinic and practice sessions during the fall. Sessions are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The clinic is for children ages 5 to 18. For information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.

USM baseball camps
The Southern Miss baseball program will host the Fall Showcase Camp Nov. 20 at noon. The camp is for players ranging from high school freshmen to junior college sophomores and provides instruction on defensive position, speed training and hitting.
