Ideas presented by American Queen management deserve good thought

It is often said there is no such thing as a stupid question.
It is often said that every idea is worthy of discussion, worthy of consideration.
Such should be the questions, ideas and suggestions on the part of the American Queen management on how the city of Vicksburg could better cater to those aboard each of the riverboat’s cruises.
Some of the ideas and requests from the company were no brainers such as relocating a dumpster and adding seating to the city’s riverfront.
Other ideas, such as asking downtown merchants to change their hours of operation to accommodate visitors might be a little more difficult to get changed.
On numerous occasions we have stressed the importance and need of continued development along the city’s waterfront.
We have mentioned at times that the so-called curb appeal of our waterfront is lacking when compared to others along the river, especially Natchez. And, it was good to see Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. agree.
“I think that’s my concern and their concern is the need to polish up the riverfront. I think we ought to have more sitting areas, more signage on the wall,” Flaggs said following the meeting with riverboat management.
“My goals is to get them to stay two nights rather than one night in Vicksburg. I think if we can get them to stay two nights, it will help our local economy and help us give Vicksburg more exposure.”
The American Queen management was not out of place for making such requests, offering such ideas. That is what we need more of from those who come to our city, who stop along the riverfront and spend their dollars with us.
They are our customers, and while the customer might not always be right, their opinion is worthy of consideration.
