Four people, including two Vicksburg police officers were injured Tuesday night in a three-car wreck at the intersection of Clay and Hayes Street after a man trying to elude police collided with a police car responding to assist another officer in the chase, Deputy Vicksburg Police Chief Bobby Steward said.

He said officers Junior Magloire and Maria Grady, and Jimmy Marshall, the driver of another car involved in the wreck were treated and released from Merit Health River Region Medical Center, Stewart said.

He said the driver of car that rammed the police car remains at the hospital for unrelated medical problems. His name was withheld pending further investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Stewart said officers were called about 10:30 p.m. to the Valley Apartments about a man threatening to commit suicide. When the first officer arrived, the man got into a 1997 Ford Escort and drove off on Hayes Street, just missing the patrol car.

When Magloire and Grady entered Hayes Street, the man collided head-on with the police car, and Magloire attempted to back up to avoid the car.

The police car entered Clay Street near the Corner Market, when he was hit by a 1998 Mercury driven by Marshall.

The man, who was arrested, in the Escort rammed the police car several times on the driver’s side, before attempting to leave, and crashed into a utility pole at the corner of Hayes and Clay by Vicksburg Catholic Schools.
