ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. — Officials in Louisiana announced Sunday they have discovered a body during the search for missing Vicksburg resident Larrielle Ross.

In a press release Sunday evening, the St. Charles Parish, La., Sheriff’s Office said a body, believed to be Ross, was discovered early Sunday.

Ross was reported missing last week from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ mat sinking unit.

The release said the body’s identity would be confirmed after dental records are provided and an autopsy is performed Tuesday. The name will be released once a positive identification is made.

According to the sheriff’s office, the body was discovered about 6:57 a.m. Sunday by employees of Magnolia Fleet, who were on the barge, saw a body floating in the river and notified authorities.

Ross, 20, of Vicksburg, was a temporary galley worker on the barge where mat sinking unit employees live and eat while working on the unit. She was reported missing Wednesday while the barge was moored near Norco, La.

After she was reported missing, units from the Corps and other agencies participated in the search.
