Everybody needs a laugh sometimes and one local church is looking to bring laughter to Vicksburg.
Trinity Temple Baptist Church is presenting a comedy show fundraiser called “Laughter Feeds the Soul” at 7 p.m. Friday at Vicksburg City Auditorium.
“The idea was given to us by a promoter and it just seemed to be a fun idea. It gives the community something to do. It’s an all clean act, all clean comedy,” church member and event organizer Talisa Williams said. “One of the comedians came to one of our past events, and we decided to invite him back.”
The show will feature local comedians Marvin “Ice Dawg” Galloway and Jerry “J. Fizzle” Fields plus headliner Comedian Griff. Griff is known for his work on Comedy Central, BET’s Comic View, Martin Lawrence 1st Amendment and the Tamela Mann Tour.
Local rap artist JAI will also perform during the night of fun and laughter.
“He will be giving us a sneak peak of his new album,” Williams said.
The show is family friendly and open to everyone.
“It’s safe to bring your kids, and you don’t have to worry about finding a babysitter. That’s one of the best things about it,” behind the scenes organizer Melinda Brown said.
Concessions will be sold during the show, but there will be no alcohol served.
Proceeds from the show will go to the church’s building fund.
Currently located at 3802 Patricia St., the church is expanding and looking to build a new location on U.S. 61 South near the Cedars Community in 2017.
“We are getting ready to lay the foundation for our building, and this is something we are trying to do as part of the building fund,” Brown said. “We already have a location and we are moving forward with combining several churches into one big building.”
Those churches that are combining are Morning Star M.B. Church, Bingham Memorial Church and Trinity Temple Baptist. She said it was a big, historic moment for the churches to come together.
“Churches that have been here for hundreds of years are finally coming together in unity under one roof,” Brown said.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show and can be purchased on eventbrite.com.

“It’s good to come out to have a good time, to get a laugh,” Williams said. “Everyone needs to laugh. It’s just a fun night out.”
