Oscar D. Birdsong Sr.

Oscar D. Birdsong Sr. of the Bovina community passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at Select Specialty Hospital. He was 89.

Oscar was the son of the late Luther R. Birdsong and Lyla Mae Anderson Birdsong. He graduated from Culkin Academy and had retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District after 44 years of service.

Oscar also retired from the farming industry.

Oscar was a lifetime member of Bovina United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lyla Ann Birdsong; and a sister, MaeBird Thurman.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Clair B. Birdsong; two sons, Oscar David Birdsong Jr. (Yvonne) and Luther Reed Birdsong (Darlene); one sister, Floyce Brown (Jimmy); eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. John Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from noon until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Lemoine, Chris Birdsong, Chance Rebert, Kyle Wallace, Robert Birdsong, Jason Stockton, Payton Lemoine and Bryce Rebert. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bovina United Methodist Church, Dr. Walter Johnston and Joe Farrar.
