Shop small Saturday

Saturday, after the busiest shopping day of the year, small businesses across the country will be encouraging shoppers to patronize their brick and mortar businesses.
That means all of us need to get out and shop at our local retailers throughout the community during Small Business Saturday.
This nationwide movement of shopping locally was founded in 2010 by American Express and is celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
It is meant to support small, locally-owned businesses that are the backbone of communities like Vicksburg.
For Vicksburg and Warren County residents, Small Business Saturday will also kick off the Christmas shopping season. It will continue on Sunday with Downtown Vicksburg’s 20th Annual Old-Fashioned Christmas Open House scheduled from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Shanon Shealy, owner of The Dragonfly, said she is looking forward to another busy holiday shopping weekend this year.
“We’re hoping that it will be another successful year. It has been historically, and it definitely was last year. I think people get out and support the community,” she said.
“We’ll have drawings for a door prize and some specials and discounts.”
A Sunday open house will also be held at 1310 Washington St. next door to Art and Soul of the South, and Santa is scheduled to appear downtown from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Plus, the first 100 shoppers to spend at least $25 in downtown Vicksburg can get a free poinsettia from the Vicksburg Main Street Association.
Remember, money spent in small, local businesses stays right here at home and ultimately is spent in other local business and in paying local taxes.
So support Vicksburg and get out and shop locally during Small Business Saturday.
