Following an afternoon briefing with the National Weather Service, local officials are now expecting severe weather in the area to hit between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m. Wednesday.
In a release earlier Tuesday, Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer warned about a “significant tornado threat for tonight for our area.”
In conjunction with warnings from the National Weather Service, central Mississippi is at a “significant” threat for “all modes of severe weather.”
“EF-2 or higher tornadoes are possible along this squall line as well as the risk for all modes of severe weather,” Elfer said in the release. “This is potentially an extremely dangerous set up.”
After the briefing, Elfer said residents in the Vicksburg area can expect high winds and large hail. Elfer said there is also an increased threat of tornadoes.
