WINNSBORO, La. — Funeral service for James Beatty, 89, of Winnsboro, La., will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, in the chapel of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Mickey Gallop and Bro. Ray Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, under the direction of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home-Winnsboro.

Mr. Beatty proudly served his country in the Korean War, retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development at the age of 52, and then found his own business, The Furniture Center. He was also an active member and served many years as a deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Winnsboro.

Mr. Beatty was born on Oct. 21, 1927, in Epps, La., to the union of William and Viola Herron Beatty, and met his Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, in Monroe, La.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laverne Marie Johnston Beatty; brothers, William Beatty, John Paul Beatty, Cecil Beatty and David Beatty; and grandson, James Allen Williams.

Survivors left to cherish his memory are his son, Paul Timothy Beatty and wife Jeannine; daughter, Linda Carol Beatty Williams and husband Bryant; grandchildren, Jon Williams and wife Stacy, Amy Williams Backstrom and husband Jeremy, Alisha Beatty Verzwyvelt and husband Nick, and Michelle Beatty Bourne and husband Jerry.

He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Pallbearers honoring Mr. Beatty will be Todd Guimbellot, David Guimbellot, Terry Sharp, Ricky Slaughter, Jeff Collins and Jacob Champlin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Brown, Charlie Ray Jennings, Bobby Collins, Jody Ellerman, Pete Guimbellot and Newt Slaughter.

The family will receive friends for visitation Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
