Justin Henry camp

Detroit Tigers area scout and former professional baseball player Justin Henry will conduct an athletic skills camp at the Purks YMCA. The five-day camp will be held Dec. 27 and 29, and Jan. 3, 4 and 6 from 10 to 11 a.m. each day. The camp is for athletes 14-and-up, and will focus on explosiveness, first step quickness and lateral movement for all sports.

The cost of the camp is $120 for YMCA members and $150 for non-members.

WC track tryouts

Tryouts for Warren Central’s varsity boys and girls, and ninth-grade boys and girls’ track teams will be held Jan. 11 and 12 at Viking Stadium, at 4 p.m. each day. Athletes must have proper workout gear and a current physical.

Hinds baseball showcase

Hinds Community College will host its Winter Baseball Showcase on Jan. 21 at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond. The camp is for players in grades 9-12. On-site registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the showcase at 12:30 p.m. The cost of the showcase is $75 per player.

The showcase will consist of a pro-style workout and an instructional period. All players must bring cleats, turf shoes, a bat and batting gloves.

Adult basketball league

Registration for the Vicksburg Park and Recreation Department’s men’s and women’s adult basketball leagues will continue through Dec. 30. The registration fee is $125 per team, plus an extra $5 fee for each non-city resident. The total team fee will not exceed $175.

Registration packets can be picked up at either the Parks and Recreation office at 100 Army-Navy Drive or at the Jackson Street Community Center.

Chill in the Hills 10K

The ninth annual Chill in the Hills 10K run and 5K race walk is scheduled for Jan. 14 in downtown Vicksburg.

The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Guaranty Bank on the corner of Cherry and Belmont Streets. Raceday registration and packet pickup will also take place at Guaranty Bank before the race on Jan. 14 and the evening of Jan. 13.

VSO registration open

Registration is open for the Vicksburg Soccer Organization’s spring season and will continue until Jan. 15.
