Vicksburg and Warren County are right on the border — the border of either getting something, or getting nothing.

Those are the predictions of the National Weather Service and Warren County Emergency Management Agency director John Elfer concerning the expectation of winter weather Friday afternoon.

“We had a briefing this afternoon and right now, we are right on the border of snow to our north and freezing rain to the south,” Elfer said.

Elfer said he has been told locally there is a 30 percent chance of the county receiving any significant winter weather and area bridges would be the most likely places of any accumulation.

“Anything can happen, but we are hoping this is a non-event,” Elfer said.

The timing of any weather would be some time after 3 p.m. Friday through the evening.

The National Weather service said any chance of snow for the area would come between 7 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday. They also forecast that “if” there is any accumulation, it is expected to be less than a tenth of an inch.

Temperatures Saturday will fall significantly, with the high expected to reach just 36 degrees according to the National Weather Service. Saturday’s low is expected to fall to 22 degrees.

Local officials, Elfer said, are continuing to monitor the weather and will receive additional updates Friday.
