Alcorn’s shooting percentage was its best in six SWAC games this season. Alcorn has neither lost nor won consecutive games since the conference season began.

“It’s all about taking good shots. We needed to pass it well and we did, which put our guys in good situations where they could score,” Alcorn coach Montez Robinson said. “Everyone was doing their job offensively and that’s what we need to have night-in and night-out.”

An Avery Patterson 3 gave the Braves a 42-31 lead early in the second half. Deshon Bayless’ jumper got the Golden Lions to 58-52 with 8:05 left, however Alcorn State responded with six straight points. The Braves led by double digits the rest of the way.

Trent Steen scored 17 points for Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-15, 3-2). Bayless added 14.

“The key for us is not going into droughts offensively or lulls defensively. For the most part, we stuck to our assignments defensively and we made them shoot tough shots. UAPB has post guys who can really shoot those mid-range shots and I told my guys that we just have to contest them,” Robinson said. “They are well-coached and really play their zone well. We went through a lot of preparation for their zone and we had some good stretches, but 25 turnovers for us is just way too many.”
