A motorcycle wreck has claimed the life of a Warren County teen.
At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Warren County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a southbound motorcycle going off China Grove Road and hitting a tree just south of the Gibson Road intersection, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
The teenage driver, Landon Scott Woodrick, 15, who lived half a mile away from the scene of the accident on Gibson Road, was pronounced dead on scene by deputy coroner Kelda Bailess and has been sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for autopsy.
Pace said deputies were on scene within minutes and attempted to administer CPR.
“He was wearing a helmet,” he said.
The Warren Central Junior High School student was driving a Suzuki off-road motorcycle, or dirt bike, and was unable to make a curve in the road.
Pace said when he lost control, he went off the right hand side of the road and collided with a tree.
Deputy Connie Ricketts is leading the accident investigation.
“There is no reason to believe any other vehicles were involved. This was a single vehicle accident,” Pace said.
There was no information available at deadline about which funeral home would be handling arrangements.
