Vicksburg police Monday recovered a car reported stolen Sunday from the 1300 block of Washington Street, police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

The 2013 Honda Civic was reported stolen about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Williams said, adding the keys had been left in the car, according to the police report on the theft. She said it was found about 2 a.m. in the parking lot of American Legion Post 3, 1712 Monroe St., Monday with the keys still in the ignition.

In other cases:

4 A Sig Sauer handgun valued at $1,300 was reported stolen about 7 p.m. Sunday from a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup parked in the 100 block of Cypress Centre Boulevard. Entry was gained by breaking a window in the truck.

4 A 9mm Taurus handgun, a purse and its contents and a set of Beats headphones were reported stolen about 7:30 a.m. from a 2003 Hyundai Tucson parked in the 700 block of Santa Rosa Drive. The car was entered by breaking a window. About 10 minutes later, at 7:40 a.m., a tote bag containing a wallet was stolen from a 2014 Nissan Rogue parked in the 600 block of Santa Rosa Drive. Entry was gained by breaking a window.

4 A 65-inch Phillips TV, Kindle Fire, jewelry and a jug of change was reported stolen Sunday from a home in the 300 block of Shady Lane.

Probation violation leads to jail sentence

A Vicksburg man will serve two years in prison for violating the conditions of his probation, according to Warren County Circuit Court records.

Circuit Judge M. James Chaney sentenced George Dennis Moore III, 17, after a hearing last week  in Circuit Court. He was also ordered to pay $104 in court costs, $289.50 in state assessments and a $1,000 fine.

According to the court order, Moore pleaded guilty in February 2015 to possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a controlled substance. At the time, the court withheld the plea and sentencing on the condition Moore successfully complete the Mississippi Department of Corrections RID program followed by 36 months probation and pay court costs, fees and a fine.

Moore, according to the order, failed to report to his probation officer after completing the RID program, left the state and failed to pay his fine and fees.

Three held for having stolen weapons

A Warren County man and two Warren County teenagers accused of having stolen weapons were held without bail Thursday.

Chris Barnette, 31, 235 Villanova Road, a 14 year old and a 16 year-old, were arrested Wednesday and charged with trafficking and possession of stolen firearms, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Hinds County notified the Warren County Sheriff’s Office of a burglary reported on Mississippi Highway 27 just over the county line Wednesday where an iPad, guns and other weapons were reported stolen, he said. That afternoon the sheriff’s office received information Barnette purchased the firearms believed to have been stolen. Barnette is believed to have purchased the weapons from the two juveniles in a parking lot of a business on Clay Street, Pace said.

All the stolen weapons — muzzleloader, shotgun, three high-power hunting rifles and a crossbow — were recovered, he said, but the iPad has not been recovered.

The juveniles are facing weapons charges in Warren County, and Hinds County has been notified of the arrest, Pace said.
