William T. ‘Wild Bill’ Barner

William T. “Wild Bill” Barner died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at his home. He was 93. 

Mr. Barner was born in Princeton, Ark., to the late Frank L. and Henrietta Walsh Barner.  He attended Henderson College and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

He had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 65 years.  He retired as a cardiographic technician from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District.  He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 95.  He was also a faithful member of Elevate Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pansy Aden Barner.

He is survived by three daughters, Bille Sue Smith (Charles), Pansy Joy Smith (David) and Sandra Lynn Barner; a granddaughter, Dayna Smith; a sister, Virginia L. Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Andrews, pastor of Elevate Church officiating. 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Randy Stubbs, Joe Brown, Wayne Beard, Darryl Southern, Kenny Massey, Charles Riles, Dr. David Gunter and Nolan Bullen.  Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Paul W. Pierce III.
