A Warren County man is charged with aggravated domestic violence, accused of shooting one of his stepfather’s fingers, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Derrick Smith 20, turned himself in at the sheriff’s office Sunday night about 1 1/2 hours after the shooting.
He was released Monday on $10,000 bond.
His victim was treated and released from Merit Health River Region.
According to sheriff’s office reports, deputies responded to a 911 call about 10:15 p.m. Sunday about shots being fired at a home at the 400 block of Evans Street and arrived to find Smith’s stepfather with a gunshot wound on a finger of his left hand.
Smith’s mother and stepfather, the report said, were arguing and Smith attempted to intervene with a handgun.
As his stepfather attempted to push the handgun away, it went off, wounding him, and Smith left the home. He turned himself into deputies about 11:45 p.m. and was arrested.
