J.W. Nevels

J.W. Nevels, died Friday June 2, 2017, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 92 years old.

Mr. Nevels was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg.

Prior to being a farmer the last 15 years, he was a carpenter at Magnolia Manufactured Housing, and also worked as a carpenter at Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Katie Nevels; a son; a daughter; five brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Virgie Nevels; five sons, Jimmy Nevels (Gail), Richard Nevels (Marie), Jerry Nevels (Sue), Larry Nevels (Paula) and Gary Nevels; two daughters, Barbara Nevels Acuff (Jimmy) and Lucinda Nevels Emirick; four stepchildren, Jim Horn, James Horn, Alton Miller and Shallar Miller.

He is also survived by two brothers, Warren Nevels, and Leon Nevels; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Glenwood Funeral Home with services in the chapel at 11 with the Rev. Gene Jacks officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Nevels Jr., Ricky Nevels, Shallar Miller, James Horn, Jamie Acuff, Tommy Miles, and Michael Paul Sanderford.
