A Hattiesburg contractor was the low bidder for a project to realign and pave Henry Lake Road.

Warren County supervisors Monday approved the $1.24 million bid of A.E. Boyer LLC of Hattiesburg to do the work.

No date has been set for work to begin on the road, pending the signing of the contract for the project, Board of Supervisors president Richard George said. The project will be paid with State Aid Road funds.

“There’s a lot of interest in this project,” he said. “We’ve been trying to get it to this point for quite a while. There certainly won’t be any delays in pursuing it to the time to issue the notice to proceed.”

He said the gravel road serves as a connector road between Interstate 20 and Freetown Road and from Flowers Hill to Oak Ridge (Road).

“A lot of the people that live along those arteries who have any reason to traverse the county use that thoroughfare. It’s a major connector point to get you to the Interstate interchange at Flowers,” he said.

He did not know how long the road has been in the area, “but it’s been there for quite a while.” 

George said the road has been restricted because of its gravel surface, and it’s a narrow road, “Although we’ve widened some parts.”

He said some sections of the road have been moved to adjust for the relocation of utilities and some sections will get a new road bed to help bring the road up to state aid standards. The road will also be paved.
