One family and one group of old friends vaulted to the top of the leaderboard Saturday at the Bud Light 3-Man Scramble at Clear Creek Golf Course.
The team of Cameron, Channing and Timmy Curtis shot a 58 in the first round to tie for the lead with Judd Mims, Ryan Hoben and Brady Ellis in Warren County’s biggest annual golf tournament.
“We’re just trying to win one for my dad,” Channing Curtis said. “It’d be special for us to win with our dad on Father’s Day. If he keeps putting like he is, then he will be leading the charge tomorrow.”
Three other teams were another shot back, and nine were within four shots of the leaders heading into Sunday’s final round.
Eleven of the 41 teams in the tournament will compete in the championship flight that tees off at 1 p.m. The first flight will also tee off at 1 p.m., while the second and third flights begin their rounds at 8 a.m.
Clear Creek will be closed to the public on Sunday and reopen Monday morning.
“It should be fun,” Channing Curtis said. “I know it’ll be competitive, but we just have to go play our best and hope it’s enough. We are just going to try to make a fun Father’s Day for our dad.”
