Funeral services for Barbara Jean Pierce will be Saturday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m.  at Locust Grove M. B. Church with the Rev. Robert L. Miller officiating; interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

There will be a visitation Friday, Sept. 29, in the funeral home 5 to 6 p.m.

Mrs. Pierce passed away Friday, Sept. 22, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home following a brief illness.  She was 74.  She had worked as a dietician/cook. She was a member of the Locust Grove M. B. Church, where she was a mother of the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ruth Ann Kirkland Smith Sr.; her husband, Robert Pierce; her brothers, Rufus Duff Smith, Nathan Smith Sr., Frank Smith,  Mark Smith, Willie Harold Smith and Frank Smith Jr., her sisters, Emma Ree Smith-Benard, Mary Ruth Wilmore, Alice Mae Smith-Hill, Anna Maude Jones, and Bonniestine Hammer.

She is survived by her son, Derrick Anthony Pierce of Vicksburg; her daughters, Sharon Ann Pierce-Saldana of Baton Rouge, La., and Debra Denise Pierce of Marietta, Ga.; her brothers, Dan Esther Smith of Philadelphia, Pa., and Harvey Lidell Smith of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others.
