The Vicksburg Fire Department responded to a fire at 8:41 p.m. Saturday at a business office located at 1304 Clay St.
VFD chief Craig Danczyk said there was visible smoke coming from the building when firefighters arrived on scene and later visible flames.
“It was a two-story structure and there was significant damage on the first floor and there was smoke damage throughout the building,” Danczyk said. “Some fire and heat also penetrated the second floor near the rear of the building.”
Battalion 1, Engine 4, Engine 6 and Platform 1 responded to the fire and were able to extinguish the flames around 9:15 p.m. Danczyk said the building was vacant at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to VFD firefighters involved in battling the fire.
“The building was two-story and it was primarily a wood structure with vinyl siding,” Danczyk said. “Just an older building and that did contribute a little bit to the fire spread, and the fact that it was two-story.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“Our fire investigator, Lt. Nate Williams, came to the scene last night and he returned again (Sunday) gathering information from the burn patterns and the conditions of the building, the fire spread and the contents,” Danczyk said. “At this time the investigation is ongoing and we can’t comment at this time.”
