Leila Werlein Stone

Leila Werlein Stone died Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 100 years old. 

Mrs. Stone was born Feb. 1, 1917, in Washington, D.C. to the late Quincy Ewing Werlein and Margaret Reid Werlein.

She was a graduate of Carr Central High School and Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, La.

Mrs. Stone was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was very active in many civic organizations, including being the first woman board member of the YMCA. 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Stone, in 1980; a grandson, Houston Werlein Tohill; and a sister, Margaret Shelby McLean.

Mrs. Stone is survived by her children: Sheila Stone of Vicksburg, Margaret Stone Tohill (Jim) of Jackson and Oliver P. Stone (Amy) of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild, one niece; and one nephew.

Services will be Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Scott Reiber officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Riles Funeral Home and Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.

Pallbearers will be James Harrison, Ray Clary, Quincy McLean, Reid Stone, Stephen Neth, and Shepard Tohill. Honorary pallbearers will be the session of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
