To the editor:
As the sponsor of the 8th Annual Bricks and Spokes, the Vicksburg Main Street Program wishes to recognize several organizations and individuals who helped make our 8th Annual Bricks and Spokes bicycle ride a huge success. The long term goal for the event Bricks and Spokes, is to raise money for the Vicksburg Main Street Program, a non-profit organization, that serves the downtown area.
Many thanks go to all of our volunteers who helped make the event happen: Fred and Lisa Burkhalter, Paul and Kathy Eagles, Paul Ingram, Tim McCarley Vicksburg Convention & Visitors Bureau- Laura Beth Strickland and Ashley Gatian, Vicksburg National Military Park, Austin Hopkins, Mykel Gibson, Asa Newman, Dean Anderson, Reggie Johnson, Rick Webster, Anna Harbin, Alice Hebler and the Moose Lodge 1581, Leo Turnipseed, students of the Alcorn Nursing Program, Joe Giambrone, Shana Stanton, and our future leaders Abel Hopkins and May Strickland. Without each of these volunteers, the event would not have been the huge success it was. The Vicksburg Main Street Program truly appreciates the effort, support, and dedication that these volunteers gave towards the 8th Annual Bricks and Spokes.
We would also like to recognize TV 23, The Vicksburg Police Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Delta Marshalls, Herman Smith and The Vicksburg Bridge Commission. With the help of these organizations and departments all of the cyclists were kept safe as they completed their ride.
We would also like to commend and thank the Vicksburg Post for their wonderful photographs and coverage of the bike ride before and during the event. We are grateful for the local support.
