The weather is finally starting to feel like fall and it is just in time for the plethora of events planned this week for Vicksburg.

The 10th anniversary of the Southern Cultural Heritage Center’s Classic in the Courtyard kicked off last week and will continue for three more consecutive Fridays.

“This event is pretty well known in the community,” Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation executive director Stacey Mahoney said. “People look forward to it and they are ready. They are waiting. We have people who call in and say put me down for all four weeks. This kicks it off.”

Each week’s event, which runs from noon to 1 p.m. features a different meal and different genre of music performed by local artists. This week’s event will feature classic blues, rock, pop and some original music by Patrick Smith. Classics in the Courtyard is free to attend and people have the option to purchase lunch for $10 to eat while listening to the music. Lunch must be reserved before 5 p.m. Thursday, the day before the event you wish to attend.

• On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the McRaven House will be hosting a Prancing in the Pumpkin Patch event that will allow people to have fun in the pumpkin patch on the grounds of the historic house, 1445 Harrison St. “We decided to do something different this year to get the locals out,” said Jai Dobson, general manager of the McRaven House. “Prancing in the Pumpkin Patch is a way to bring people out to the tourist side of town because we don’t get as many locals anymore as we do tourists out to the grounds.”

The free event is open to all ages and will consist of face painting and spooky Halloween games. The house will also be selling pumpkins all month. There will also be haunted tours starting at 8:30 p.m. “Each guest will receive an electric candle and will be assigned a costumed tourist guide.”

• The Westside Theatre Foundation will be preforming “Jekyll & Hyde, The Musical” beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 717 Clay St. “We typically do a show during the Halloween season. We’ve done Dracula, and Rocky Horror a bunch of times, so we wanted to do something cool during Halloween,” producer Jack Burns said.

Performances will run Friday, Saturday and Sunday and admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

• The Warren Central High School Big Blue Band will host the annual Valhalla’s Frightmare Haunted House beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday. This year, the haunted house will be located in the old Rue 21 store at Vicksburg Outlet Mall. Admission to the haunted house is $10 per person and participants can expect to see guest appearances by Pennywise and Georgie from the movie “It,” as well as characters from other classic horror movies.
