Chill in the Hills

Registration is now open for the 10th annual Chill in the Hills run and walk. The 10K run, 5K walk and 1-mile fun run is scheduled for Jan. 13, at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Vicksburg. The registration fee is $25, and includes an anniversary edition T-shirt. The 1-mile fun run is free for children ages 18 and under.

The Chill in the Hills is a fundraiser for Grace Christian Counseling Center. Proceeds of the event will help the counselors at Grace Christian provide counseling services to all persons in the community regardless of their resources to pay for those services.

Alcorn volleyball club

The Southern Swing VBC volleyball club is looking for players. The girls club team consists of players ages 8-18, in grades 3-12, and prior playing experience is not necessary. The coaching staff consists of Alcorn State head coach Chelsey Lucas, past college players, and Alcorn State staff.

All age groups will play in five or six tournaments during a season that runs from January through April. Teams will have 8-10 players.

Tryouts and team placement will be held Sunday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for players in the 12U, 13U and 14U age groups; and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for the 15U, 16U, 17U and 18U age groups. Tryouts will be at the E.E. Simmons Gym on the Alcorn State University campus. Registration begins 30 minutes before each session.

There is a $30 tryout fee, and an additional $40 fee to join the club team. Payment is cash or money order only. No checks are accepted.

Fees cover insurance, membership to USA Volleyball, uniforms and equipment, facility fees, coaches fees, and tournament entry fees.

Wetland workshops

Mississippi’s Lower Delta Partnership (LDP) is hosting two workshops that will detail managing land for waterfowl for landowners.

Wildlife biologists from Ducks Unlimited, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service will offer presentations that will give information on waterfowl behavior and managing different types of wetlands.

The workshops will be held in Cleveland at the Bolivar County Extension Office on Nov. 7. and at the Rolling Fork Community Center on Nov. 8. The workshops will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 2 p.m.. Lunch will be provided.

These workshops are open to the public and free to attend, but attendees must preregister online at lowerdelta.org/workshops or call 662-873-6261 for more information.
