Rufus Baxter Nixon Jr.

Rufus Baxter Nixon Jr., 75, of Vicksburg died Nov. 3, 2017, at home surrounded by family and friends.

He was born July 20, 1942, in Jackson as the son of the late Rufus Baxter Nixon Sr. and Martha Lee Nixon of Vicksburg.

He attended school in Tchula and Redwood. He served in the United states Air Force and obtained his college education there. After his discharge, he was a business owner in Vicksburg and had the distributorship for Grenada Farms, LuVel Dairy and most recently, Prairie Farms Dairy.

His favorite thing to do besides spending time with his family was watching the New Orleans Saints.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty Nixon; his daughters, Shelia Nixon Reeves (Edward), Carisa Nixon Haire (William- “Bud”), and Alisa Nixon; as well as grandchildren, Kyle Robinson (Brandy), Landon Haire, Kayla Haire; and great-grandchildren, Ashton Morgan, Abigail Robinson, Chloe Robinson and Zoey Robinson, all of Vicksburg.

His siblings include Tommy Nixon (Barbara) of Vicksburg, Ann Wellshans (Robert) of Vicksburg, Linda Moore (James) of Brandon, Sue Nixon, Vickye Stocks (Kenneth) of Vicksburg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Timmy Nixon and his wife Debra Nixon.

A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Triumph Church in Vicksburg with pastor Mike Fields officiating.
