JV soccer report

Warren Central 4, Pearl 0 — Anden McClurg, Cooper Madison, Justin Hasty and Kaden Taylor each scored a goal to lead Warren Central’s seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ soccer team to a win over Pearl. Connor Scribner earned the shutout in goal, and Riley Lampkin contributed some solid defense in front of him.

Warren Central 1, Pearl 0 — Warren Central’s junior varsity team opened its season with a shutout of Pearl. Josh Hallberg was credited with WC’s goal when the ball deflected off a Pearl player following a corner kick late in the second half.

Chill in the Hills

Registration is now open for the 10th annual Chill in the Hills run and walk. The 10K run, 5K walk and 1-mile fun run is scheduled for Jan. 13, at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Vicksburg. The registration fee is $25, and includes an anniversary edition T-shirt. The 1-mile fun run is free for children ages 18 and under.

The proceeds of the event will help the counselors at Grace Christian provide counseling services to all persons in the community regardless of a person’s resources to pay for those services.

Alcorn volleyball club

The Southern Swing VBC volleyball club is looking for players. The girls club team consists of players ages 8-18, and prior playing experience is not necessary. The coaching staff consists of Alcorn State head coach Chelsey Lucas, past college players, and Alcorn staff.

All age groups will play in five or six tournaments during a season that runs from January through April.

Tryouts and team placement will be held Sunday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for players in the 12U, 13U and 14U age groups; and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for the 15U, 16U, 17U and 18U age groups. Tryouts will be at the E.E. Simmons Gym on the Alcorn State University campus. Registration begins 30 minutes before each session.

There is a $30 tryout fee, and an additional $40 fee to join the club team. Payment is cash or money order only. No checks are accepted. Fees cover insurance, membership to USA Volleyball, uniforms and equipment, facility fees, coaches fees, and tournament entry fees.

Arrowhead Golf Tour

The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour will host the AJGT Averifact Fall Junior Classic Nov. 18-19 at Joseph M. Bartholomew Golf Course in New Orleans. The entry fee for the two-day, 36-hole tournament is $195 and includes green fees, tee gifts, and trophies in four age divisions.
