An inmate in the Warren County Jail died from an apparent medical issue Sunday morning, Warren County sheriff Martin Pace said.
Guards were notified at about 7:45 a.m. Sunday via the inmate intercom system that Tommy Dodd Hall, 51, had collapsed and appeared to be unconscious, Pace said.
“Inmates in one of the downstairs cell blocks using the inmate intercom system summoned a guard for assistance,” Pace said.
Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Guards rushed to the cell, 911 was notified and a guard began administering CPR,” Pace said. “We had an ambulance on the scene in eight minutes with paramedics and were unable to revive him.”
Hall had been an inmate at Warren County Jail since Sept. 12 on charges of receiving stolen property.
Pace said Hall and other inmates had recently returned from breakfast at the time of the incident.
The death remains under investigation, but, “Indications are at this time that it appears to be a medical issue,” Pace said.
“As is state law and our protocol an autopsy was required,” Pace said. “I notified Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and they had an MBI agent come to Vicksburg who has been here most of the day reviewing video and interviewing the other inmates.”
