David Walter Welch

David Walter Welch died Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at his residence. He was 73.

A native of Vermont, he had lived in Vicksburg since 1944, where he retired as a riverboat pilot for Smith Towing Co. He was a member of the Vicksburg Riding Club, an avid hunter and fisherman and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his daughters, Tammy (Bobby) Stewart and Becky Thomas both of Vicksburg; his son, Doug Welch of Vicksburg; a sister, Hilda (Nick) Huntoon of Wells River, Vt.; a brother, Ronald (Jean) Welch of Wells River, Vt.; 4 grandchildren, Amber (Raymond) Jones, Tyler Brumitt, Daniel Thomas and Jacob Stewart and his great-granddaughter, Avalynn Jones.

Graveside services will be held Monday, Dec.4, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mike Fields officiating. Visitation will be noon Monday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chris Brumitt, Tyler Brumitt, Daniel K. Thomas, Jacob Stewart, Raymond Jones and Adrien Rodrigues.

Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Welch, Lum Purviance and Bobby Stewart.

Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
