Goals or resolutions, key is to do it
Published 9:00 pm Tuesday, December 26, 2017
I am not a New Year’s resolution type of person. I believe in goals, but I don’t believe creating a “resolution” is necessary at the end of each year.
The reason being is that more often than not, you forget the resolution about the time Valentine’s Day rolls around.
I do like to reflect on the previous year and what a year it has been personally.
After spending my time as editor of the Oxford Eagle, I was offered the opportunity to come to Vicksburg as editor of The Post and feel so fortunate to now make Warren County my home. The people I have had the honor of working with have made me feel right at home.
I’ve enjoyed learning a new area and community and its people. It seems every day I find something new about Vicksburg and the people who inhabit it.
My parents both had some health scares, but fortunately both are doing much better as the year comes to a close. Moving to Vicksburg has allowed me to make more frequent trips to visit them on the Mississippi Coast, which is also a blessing.
My brothers and their families are doing well and my daughter is still happily married as she approaches her second year of marriage.
Overall, I can’t complain about 2017 but I am looking forward to what the coming year will bring.
A lot of people do make such resolutions, which is fine. I, on the other hand, like to see goals met. Most of us want to lose a few pounds, become healthier and be a better person than we were the year before. Those three things are my “goals” for 2018.
With that said, here is my list of other goals I would like to see achieved in 2018 in no particular order.
For our community:
4The site for a new county jail is finalized.
4Construction begins on the long awaited water park in Vicksburg.
4The Vicksburg-Warren School District continues to make strides.
4Our elected officials continue to put the best interest of Vicksburg first.
4The people of our community continue to work together to make Vicksburg the best it can be.
For me personally:
4I draw the winning ticket for the Crusin the Coast raffle car (a restored ’69 Camaro, by the way).
4Ole Miss wins the Egg Bowl again this year.
4Any body except Alabama wins the national championship.
4The Saints win the Super Bowl.
4The Giants win the World Series.
4If not the Giants, the Red Sox win the World Series.
For those of you who do make resolutions, I hope you are able to commit yourself to your achievements.
I hope all of you have a very safe evening in ringing in the New Year. I also wish all of you a very Happy New Year and hope that 2018 is full of blessings for you and your family.
Here’s to a Happy New Year!
