“Everything went really well. We had a really good year last year, but I think we are up this year,” she said.

Peterson’s, which is located on Washington Street, offers a variety of specialty items including the Melissa and Doug toy line, and Marascalco said sales for the toys were healthy, but there were also plenty of other items sold including jewelry, pajamas and food items.

“The food items were really good for us. We got a lot of new food lines and they were really good for us,” Marascalso said.

The manager at the local Belk store, Tyfone Reed-Morales, said they were also busy during the Christmas holiday season.

“It was a very good Christmas season. Traffic was up and conversion was up, so I would say in totality we did very good,” Reed-Morales said, adding that the Vicksburg Belk even beat out their goals for the Christmas season.

“We beat what the company thought we would do,” he said.

Four days before Christmas a CEO from corporate also visited the Vicksburg Belk, something Reed-Morales said had never happened.

“One of the statements he said was this was one of the best stores that he has shopped in and the store is well recovered,” Reed-Morales said.

Patrice Williams, the store manager of Hibbetts Sports at the Vicksburg Mall said their retail store also did well over the holidays.

“We were pretty busy and actually, we are still pretty busy,” Williams said.

Sears store manager Billy Adams said they had a “wonderful Christmas.”

“We did pretty good and this year was one of the best so far,” he said, adding tools were a popular item.

“This year our biggest things were tools and we had great tool sales.”

According to usatoday.com, the U.S. year-end holiday retail sales rose 4.9 percent compared to the same period last year making this the best holiday sales season since 2011.

“Online retail shopping similarly increased 18.1percent, while overall consumer buying during the holiday period set a record for dollars spent, according to the sales report issued by Mastercard SpendingPulse.”
