VSO spring registration
Registration is now open for the Vicksburg Soccer Organization’s spring season, and will continue through Jan. 31.
The league is open to children ages 4 and up, with teams split into different age groups. The registration fees are $60 for children in the U4-U6 age groups; $80 for the U8 division; $85 for U10; and $90 for U12 and above. There is a $5 discount for registrations received by Jan. 10.
The first week of practice is Feb. 5-9, and the season froms from Feb. 10 until April 7. To register or for more information, visit vsosoccer.org, email info@vsosoccer.org or call 601-415-9902.
Chill in the Hills
Registration is now open for the 10th annual Chill in the Hills run and walk. The 10K run, 5K walk and 1-mile fun run is scheduled for Jan. 13, at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Vicksburg. The registration fee is $25, and includes an anniversary edition T-shirt. The 1-mile fun run is free for children ages 18 and under.

The proceeds of the event will help the counselors at Grace Christian provide counseling services to all persons in the community regardless of a person’s resources to pay for those services.

Adult basketball League
Registration is open for the City of Vicksburg’s men’s and women’s adult basketball leagues. Packets can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation Offices at 100 Army-Navy Drive or at the Jackson Street Community Center.
Team fees begin at $125, with an extra $5 fee for players that are not city residents. The total fee for each team will not exceed $175. For more information call Joseph Graves at 601-831-8050.
Red Carpet scholarship
Applications are now being accepted for the Red Carpet Bowl scholarship awards. The $500 scholarships are available to students at each of Warren County’s four high schools — Warren Central, Vicksburg High, St. Aloysius and Porter’s Chapel Academy — and will be awarded in the spring. To apply, students must fill out an application and write a 500-word essay.
The deadline to apply is March 1. Applications are available by contacting the main office at each school or by calling Red Carpet Bowl committee member Travis Vance at 601-218-8556.
Hinds baseball showcase
Hinds Community College will host its annual Winter Baseball Showcase Jan. 27 at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond. The showcase is open to players in grades 9-12 and costs $100 per player. Coaches from Hinds and other junior colleges and universities will be in attendance.
Players must bring their own cleats, turf shoes, glove, bats and other equipment.
