A registered sex offender faces sexual abuse charges after his arrest Wednesday at the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

He said James Willie Ross Jr., 47, turned himself in to investigator Stacy Rollinson about 8 a.m. Wednesday, ending a search for him that began Jan. 4 and included several Mississippi counties. He was being held without bail in the Warren County Jail pending an initial appearance Thursday in County Court. He is accused of two counts of sexual battery and one count of statutory rape involving children under the age of 12.

Canary Johnson, 36, a woman who is an acquaintance of Ross, was arrested Jan. 5 and charged with two counts being an accessory after the fact to sexual battery. Pace would not say where Johnson was found, citing the ongoing investigation. She is being held in the Warren County Jail without bond after an initial appearance in County Court Jan. 5.

Pace said the investigation into Ross’ actions began Jan. 4 when deputies received a tip that two children were being sexually abused at a home in Warren County.
