A man was pronounced dead at a private hunting club off Dudley Road in Warren County early Saturday after suffering a gunshot wound.
Deputy Coroner Kelda Bailess pronounced the man, who was identified as George Sawyer Temple, 23, of Raymond, dead at the scene. His body has been sent to the state laboratory for autopsy.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a call from someone who hunts in the area, reporting that a man had been shot at the hunting club.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said the private hunting club is located on private property at the end of Dudley Road, “which is just a mud road — not even gravel — that goes several miles down the bank of the Big Black River.”
Pace, along with Warren County Sheriff’s deputies and investigators responded to the call to support the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
“We found a man who appeared to have suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest,” Pace said. “
The death is being investigated like all hunting related deaths by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. That agency is in charge of the investigation.”
