Deadlines for nominations for king and queen of the Vicksburg Main Street River Revelers’ Masked Ball and Mardi Gras Parade are nearing.
“Nominations have to be postmarked by Jan. 17,” assistant Main Street director Rebecca Taver said, or submitted to the Main Street office, 1413 Walnut St. by this date.
Nominations for king and queen can also be made by calling 601-634-4527 or by email kimh@vicksburg.org.
The ball will be held Feb. 3 at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center auditorium, 1320 Adams St. The parade is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Feb. 10.
Taver said anyone could be nominated as long as they are a resident of the Vicksburg/Warren County community and are at least 21 years of age.
Nominations will then be tallied and the top four king and queen candidates will be put on the ballot.
“The king and queen will be voted on by the participants of the ball,” Taver said, using IPads that will be available at the ball.
After the votes are tabulated the king and queen will be crowned.
“We really want to encourage that anyone can be nominated. If you think they are a good person in the community and deserve some recognition, throw their name in the pot,” Taver said.
“Last year, we had a school teacher and a volunteer at a church who won. So it does not have to be someone with a prestigious title. It could be anybody you feel is worthy.”
The ball, which is a black tie event, will run from 7 to 11 p.m.
Dreamers will provide music beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 a person or $500 for a table and are available at the Main Street Office or online at squareup.com/store/vicksburg-main-street-program. A cash bar will also be available.
