Gators pick up win over Ridgeland

After a month of struggles, things are suddenly looking up for the Vicksburg Gators.

Darius Johnson scored 13 points and Ke’Darrion Parson added 10 points and five rebounds as the Gators beat Ridgeland 45-39 on Monday. It was their second consecutive win after they had lost five games in a row and nine of their previous 10.

Darius Kent led Ridgeland (15-5, 2-1 Division 4-5A) with 13 points and Daveon Goodloe had 11.

The Gators (7-13, 1-2) had another division game late Tuesday night against Germantown as they completed a run of four games in five days. They’ll play Ridgeland again at home on Friday at 6 p.m.

In the girls’ game Monday, Nina German scored 27 points and Shanell Kitchens had 21 as Ridgeland routed Vicksburg 81-48.

Kitchens scored 16 points in the first half as Ridgeland (15-4, 2-1) raced out to a 30-point lead.

Tiarra Jones led Vicksburg (9-9, 1-2) with 16 points. Pleasure King added nine and Ke’mari Smith had eight. The Missy Gators have lost five of their last seven games.
