Sidney C. “Sid” Ervin Jr.

Sidney Clyde “Sid” Ervin Jr., also known as the “Honey Man,” died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018. He was 78.

Mr. Ervin was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg and the son of the late Sidney Ervin Sr. and Nettie Mae Watts Ervin. He was a 1958 graduate of J.H. Culkin Academy and attended Hinds Junior College.

He was of the Baptist Faith, a retired general contractor and longtime beekeeper and honey producer.

Mr. Ervin was a longtime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Vicksburg Lodge No. 95, where he held the state office of VA Chairman. He was also a member of the Carpenter’s Union and the Mississippi Beekeeper’s Association. He was active in the Voluntary Services of the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Medical Center, driving local patients to and from the center for treatment for many years.

Mr. Ervin is survived by his wife, Patricia C. Ervin; a son, Sidney C. “Dusty” Ervin III of Ft. Drum, N.Y.; a daughter, Lori Ervin Rohde (Jimmy) of Seattle, Wash.; a granddaughter, Anna Rohde; a brother, Malcolm Ervin of Haughton, La.; two sisters, Martha F. Taylor and Julie A. Ervin, both of Vicksburg; and numerous nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday March 2, 2018, at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Sibley officiating.

Visitation will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018, and Friday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at Riles Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Taylor, James Taylor, Mac Ervin, John P. Ervin, John Ervin and Dane Dixon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Arendale, Craig Huch, Gordon Cotton, Bruce Goodwin, Darryl Hale, Edna Cox, Tony Bailey and Voluntary Services of the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Medical Center.
