JACKSON -— Eugene Jackson Sr., 83, of Jackson passed away at Baptist Hospital on

Feb. 23, 2018.

He was a native of Durant and a product of Durant Public Schools. Upon graduating from high school, he matriculated to Jackson State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Specialist Degree in Administration. He furthered his studies at San Francisco State College, San Francisco, Calif., and the University of California in Berkeley, Calif., where he earned a second Specialist Degree in Guidance and Counseling.

He began his teaching career in Canton Public Schools, teaching at Cameron Street High School.

He gave 11 years of service, teaching social studies, physical

education, coaching, and in administration at Rosa Temple High School, Vicksburg.

He also worked as director of the summer youth program until 1973.

His dedication to working with students continued until he retired from Jackson State University after serving as director of student sctivities, dean of student affairs, and director of the campus union.

A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he is survived by two loving daughters, Valerie (Harold) Miller of Brandon, and

Amy (Carlos) Bell of Mesquite, Texas; sister, Dr. Anita Jackson of Jackson; grandson, Michael D. Stampley of Mesquite, Texas; one special nephew, Reginald

High; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Wilson “Will” Jackson and Charlie Stevens Jackson, he is

preceded in death by his devoted wife of 57 years, Joyce Flood Jackson; son,

Eugene Jackson Jr.; brothers, Arthur Jackson, Milton Jackson, and Rudolph

Jackson; and sisters, Amy High, Catherine Jackson, Johnny Ruth Jackson, and Doris Jackson.

Funeral services will be at New Hope Baptist Church, 5202 Watkins Dr. in Jackson Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 2 p.m.

Visitation is 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, with family present from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Lakeover Funeral Home.
